Telangana State government on Friday approved a scheme to extend Rs 5 lakh accident insurance to private drivers, Home Guards and journalists in the State. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao signed on the file pertaining to the scheme. The premium would be paid by the government on behalf beneficiaries.

Hyderabad: Telangana State government on Friday approved a scheme to extend Rs 5 lakh accident insurance to private drivers, Home Guards and journalists in the State. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao signed on the file pertaining to the scheme. The premium would be paid by the government on behalf beneficiaries.


Home Minister N Narsimha Reddy told reporters that no other state in India had so far implemented such a scheme for the welfare of journalists, Home Guards and private drivers. He also said that orders were issued for implementation of the scheme. A meeting would soon be held at Ravindra Bharathi to create awareness on the scheme.


About 10 lakh drivers and 10,000 journalists would be benefited by the scheme. Police commissioner in Hyderabad, Superintendents of Police concerned in districts would implement the scheme for Home Guards, Labour Department for auto-rickhsaw drivers and DPROs for scribes, he said.
