This is an appeal to the Chief Justice of High Court, Govt of Telangana on the following irresponsible, uncivilized and highly corrupt practices being followed by the GHMC.
The roads in the city are being dug several times for laying some cable or a pipeline. There is no board that displays the details of work with timelines and people accountable for this with their contact details. Why the civic body like GHMC shall not take this responsibility and fix the accountability for each and every public work it undertakes by using public money? I had appealed to GHMC several times but of no use. Hans India with its appreciable civic sense published several articles that I wrote in this regard. Still there is no response from the GHMC. There are several examples in this regard they include:
Digging of several roads in Kukatpally Area are the best examples.
KPHB Road no.1 was dug long ago and laying pipelines is still going on since two years. God knows as to when this simple work can be completed.
The road that diverts the traffic to Jubilee Hills just before Hightech city flyover is dug 3 years ago and not repaired at all. Daily commuters have chosen to suffer silently.
Saptagiri Colony, Paparayudu Nagar mainroad, Road from Vaddepalli Enclave to Kukatpally BJP Office is dug several times and remained in a very bad and sometimes dangerous state when rain falls for more than 2 years.
The Tadbund road is dug one year ago and yet the work is not completed.
The work related to Manholes and manhole caps is a cash cow for both contractors and GHMC staff. Several manholes with caps are repaired, replaced several times in a year spending precious public money for vested interest.
When it rains the GHMC does patch work immediately in a very shabby manner so that this patch work gets wiped out by another spell of rain. GHMC strategically builds roads violating road congress norms and thereby lay the same road several times. Majority of our city roads do not have gentle slopes that drain the rain water or built in a low lying area so that that portion of road gets damaged easily.
School going kids are subjected to dust as the sanitation staff chose to sweep roads only when the kids go to schools and the garbage collection teams also join them at the same time. This makes the school going kids inhale dust and stinking smell every morning.
I wrote an article on Speed Breakers as spine breakers in our great city. They shall be rationalized and replaced and removed when not necessary. Several cement roads are made in the residential colonies with the influence of rich residents speed breakers like water stopping walls are built!! There are occasions where a new road is just made and some resident digs the road to repair the drain connection!! That resident does not have the responsibility to make good the road that was dug. It becomes a permanent damage to the road. Some residents chose not to keep a parking place in their homes and use the roads making them narrower. Some trader dumps sand/building material on the road to sell.
Some roads are not swept yet they are included in the billing.
I request the Chief Justice of High Court to direct the GHMC to demonstrate civic sense and complete the basic infrastructure like roads and drainage systems immediately by declaring timelines and quality standards. Further for every public work that GHMC takes up all the details as suggested above shall be displayed at the site and in the official website of GHMC.
