CM justifies MLAs’ suspensions. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao slammed the Opposition parties for their continued outbursts against the State government on farmers’ issue.

Says no other State in the country can waive off a whopping `8,000 crore farm loans

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao slammed the Opposition parties for their continued outbursts against the State government on farmers’ issue. He said suicides were a result of ineffective and failed governance of the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for the past 58 years.

Rebutting Opposition charges on suspension, he said that the government did not do anything wrong. The members themselves were to be blamed for the mess. If opposition acted in a manner to stall the proceedings continuously, the government had every right to take democratic actions and see that public issues were discussed, the Chief Minister said.

Speaking in the Assembly on Wednesday, Rao questioned the Opposition parties whether any government in the remaining 28 States in the country could waive off a whopping Rs 8,000 crore loan amount in a single stroke. Rao was highly critical of a women MLA’s remark that the Chief Minister wanted to show them a movie while referring to his plans for a video presentation on reengineering of irrigation projects on the floor of the House.

This, however, would be held on October 15 or 16 and presidents of all Opposition parties, floor leaders of various parties in Telangana Assembly, editors of electronic and print media besides intellectuals would be invited for the presentation, he said. Meanwhile, participating in a short discussion on welfare, Chandrashekar Rao pointed out that his government had drawn plans to construct 65,000 two-bedroom houses in the coming years with a budget of Rs 4,055 crore.

He further stated that the government had spent Rs 33,986 crore on welfare sector as against Rs 13,572 crore spent in the undivided State. Giving a break-up, he said Rs 8,089 crore was spent for welfare of SCs, Rs 5,036 crore on STs, Rs 2,172 crore on BCs and Rs 1,105 crore on minorities.

Also Rs 2,037 crore was alloted for women and child welfare, Rs 100 crore for welfare of advocates and Rs 10 crore for welfare of journalists. He made a mention of pensions, super fine rice to hostel students and Arogyalakshmi scheme. Also, he announced that all thandas would be converted into gram panchayats by the next local body elections.
