T TDP working president pitches for public hearing on agreement

  • Kodangal MLA faults the government for calling comments and objections online
  • He alleges that the ‘real’ supplier of power is a private power company

Hyderabad: Telangana TDP working president and legislator A Revanth Reddy on Friday demanded that a public hearing be held on the power purchase agreement (PPA) between the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company and Telangana State. He stressed the need to invite all political parties, consumer organisations and experts to the public hearing to decide whether it was in the interest of consumers. In a letter to the Chairman of Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC), Revanth Reddy found it not right in calling for comments, objections and suggestions online on the PPA between the two State governments.

This,he claimed, highlighted the “dubious effort” by the TSERC to manipulate the process of public hearing, he said “It is nothing but mockery to place the issue in public domain just by asking suggestions and comments online while it is mandated to conduct a public hearing while finalising PPAs,” he said, adding that the convention and the requirement was to conduct a public inquiry and hearing after revealing the entire gamut of issues involved in the PPAs to have reasoned and considered feedback from the public.

Revanth Reddy further said the PPA was projected as government–to-government contract while the fact was that the real power supplier was a private power company. Secondly, the grid was expected to be completed not earlier than in 2018 and even then the quota allotted to Telangana State would not be 1,000 MW. The Wardha-Maheswaram or even Angur-Palasa transmission lines were not in place and it was not known when the work would be completed, he added.
