Hyderabad: AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh’s two-day whirlwind visit to Hyderabad and Warangal, according to the Congress leaders, has helped galvanise the party cadre. Now the State leaders are confident of taking on the TRS government comprehensively.
His visit was mainly to prepare the party to face byelections in Warangal (Lok Sabha) and Narayankhed (Assembly) and also GHMC elections. The Congress leadership feels that the TRS will face tough challenge in the elections.
Digvijay Singh made it a point to call on the family of former MLA of Narayankhed P Kista Reddy at their Sanathnagar residence. The party leadership is keen on retaining the seat as the TRS has rejected the Congress party’s proposal to ensure unanimous election.
The party leaders are focussing their attention on the constituency following the rumours that Kista Reddy’s son is offered ticket by the TRS.
Digvijay Singh held a meeting with the leaders in Narayankhed as part of preparations for the elections. “It is a general practice to announce unanimous support to the family of the bereaved.
But KCR is going into overdrive to capture the seat by announcing various schemes and promise of developing infrastructure, which would never materialise,” Digvijay said. During his visit, the AICC general secretary tried to resolve differences among the local leaders.
During his interaction with Warangal party cadres, he described the encounter killing of Maoists, Sruthi and Vidyasagar Reddy, as fake and horrific.
He wondered as to how a government and the police could behave so brutally with a young woman. He exhorted the cadre to explain to the people that the government had failed to fulfil its poll promises, like distribution of 3 acres of agriculture land to Dalits and establishment of Jayashankar Park.
