Addressing party meeting here on Sunday, district CPI council secretary Bagam Hemnath Rao demanded the State government come up with rescue measures to protect the crisis-ridden farmers.

“The adverse weather conditions led to crop losses in the district,” he said, demanding the TRS government declare the district as drought-affected.

He also demanded the release of water from Nagarjunasagar project to protect the crops under its ayacut and to fill the tanks.

He found fault with the administration for providing compensation to only 11 farmers, while the number of debtridden farmers who committed suicide was 77 in the district.

Referring to the cotton farmers’ problems, he criticised the State government for its failure to provide remunerative price to them.

Senior leaders S K Janimiya, Potu Prasad, Jammula Jitender Reddy and Singu Narsimha Rao were present.
