Hyderabad : The two-judge PIL bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip Bhosale and Justice SV Bhatt on Tuesday permitted the conduct of the competitive examination for filling up vacancies of various engineering posts in the power sector ( DISCOM and Genco ) in the coming weeks but that the result would be subject to the verdict in a pending writ petition.

The writ petition is filed questioning the decision of the companies classifying the candidates as locals and non-locals. It is contended by Dr. Lakshmi Narasimham that such classification is the prerogative of the State and was not available to the company and also the classification based on region was unconstitutional. He pointed out that all the posts advertised were reserved only in favour of “natives of Telangana either by birth or by residence” and the same was unconstitutional.

Top legal officers of the state Advocate General Ramakrishna Reddy and Additional Advocate General Ramchander appeared for the power companies. The bench adjourned the matter to December 7.
