Hyderabad: The Telangana State Directorate of School Education has decided to crack the whip on errant DEd colleges in the State. Of the 273 colleges across 10 districts in the State, the directorate has approved affiliation for only about 124 colleges for a period of three years.

  • Of the 273 colleges in Telangana, only 124 have been given affiliation
  • Colleges which do not have an affiliation would be barred from participating in the counselling for admissions

During verification of the documents put forward by the colleges for affiliation, the directorate found that 43 colleges had produced fake certificates, 22 did not have No Objection Certificates with regard to fire safety, 30 have been working from different premises and 54 had other shortfalls. Hence, the directorate has scrapped affiliation for about 135 colleges from this academic year.

In this regard, the school education department has sent a list of colleges for an approval to the government. This means the colleges which do not have an affiliation from the government would be barred from participating in the counselling for admissions this academic year.

According to officials in the directorate, the government has tightened the norms for affiliation and the grant has been raised for a period of three years from one. As a result, the directorate has decided to make surprise inspections. “If colleges have been found to be flout norms, affiliations will be cancelled,” said a senior official.
