Hyderabad: Families of offenders on Friday appealed to the State government to consider the “good conduct” of the prisoners at Cherlapally Central Prison for remission and the release on the Republic Day.

The kin of prisoners speaking to media here, said the breadwinners of their families were in Cherlapally jail for over five years undergoing punishment for various crimes and their children were suffering due to lack of financial support for education and health.

They said the persons serving imprisonment in Central Prison were not habitual offenders, but committed crimes in the heat of moment. “They (the prisoners at Cherlapally prison) had not violated the rules of the jails and followed the instructions of the prison authorities for several years,” the family members of the prisoners told media.

They reminded the government that during the tenure of N T Rama Rao as the Chief Minister of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, several prisoners, who completed imprisonment for a period of five years, were released.
