The PIL bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale and Justice S Ravi Kumar on Monday permitted the petitioner to withdraw his petition on challenging the action of the police in firing at chain- snatchers.

The bench was dealing with a public interest writ petition filed by Syed Mohammed Abdul Samad a resident of the city. The petitioner questioned the action of the police in firing at chain- snatchers at LB Nagar in the city. It may be recalled that a police officer had fired at chain snatchers in broad daylight and in full public view.

The bench finding fault with the petitioner said “The police will take precautionary measures keeping the public safety in view while opening fire. The PIL is not maintainable. Either you withdraw the petition or we will dismiss it." Upon directions from the bench, the petitioner withdrew the petition.
