Hyderabad to get Godavari water from Nov 27
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) on Tuesday successfully brought Godavari Drinking Water Project (GDWP) phase-I to 150 MLD Master Balancing Reservoir (MBR) at Ghanpur near Shamirpet.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) on Tuesday successfully brought Godavari Drinking Water Project (GDWP) phase-I to 150 MLD Master Balancing Reservoir (MBR) at Ghanpur near Shamirpet.
According to the Water Board officials the Godavari phase-I water will be supplied to the city from November 27. They added that twin cities would receive about 28 million gallons per day (MGD). The Godavari Phase I water supply project has four pumping stations at Bommakal, Mallaram Kondapaka and Ghanpur. From Ghanpur the water would be supplied to the twin cities.
The Water Board officials further stated that if the Godavari water supply project once completed, it is expected to draw 172 million gallons per day (MGD), taking the total water supply to 600 MGD, including the Krishna phase-3 project to the city. It would benefit about 20 lakh people in the twin cities, they added.
Meanwhile, the trial run has been carried in four stages from Mumur to Bommakal in stage one, Bommakal to Mallaram stage two, Mallaram to Kondapaka in stage three and Kondapaka to Ghanpur of Ranga Reddy district in stage four.
The GDWP project noticed major water leakage from the pipes in the second stage trail run taken up from Bommakal village to Mallaram village in Karimnagar district. HMWS&SB successfully ran stage-1 of Godavari Phase-I, 54 kilometre pipeline from Mumur to Bommakal and faced a leakage in stage 2, 35 kilometre pipelines from Bommakal to Mallaram.
