Hyderabad: The incidence of cervical cancers is high in India due to socioeconomic conditions and lack of awareness and screening programmes, according gynaecologist and oncologists.

“Women should go for regular screening because early detection can help in complete cure. Significant urbanisation and associated habits had led to rise in cases of breast cancers,” the doctors said.

The three day 23rdAnnual Conference of Association of Gynecologic Oncologists of India, held in the city from Friday, discussed about robotic and laparoscopic surgeries and newer forms of treatment.

According to Dr T Subramanyeswar Rao, organising chairperson, AGOICON 2015 and medical director, Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital,

breast and cervical cancers are on the rise in India because of lack of awareness among women. Obesity and lack of activity is the major cause for breast cancer, he said.
