FAKE VISA RACKET

Hyderabad: The detention of 23 women at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport for carrying fake visas in the last three days has shocked both the Immigration authorities and the Cyberabad police.

The women, who hailed from Kadapa district, were found carrying two kinds of visas –one tourist and another work permit. The Immigration authorities at the airport detained them on finding the women possessing two kinds of visas. After they were handed over to the police for questioning, it was revealed that the visas relating to the work permit were fake though the tourist visas were genuine.

The Cyberabad police, after painstaking investigation overnight, have identified the agents who have been running the racket with bases in Kadapa, Hyderabad and Bangalore.

The agents, according to police, had been fleecing the illiterate people, particularly women, by providing them with fake work permit and sending them to Dubai and other Arab countries. The women go to these countries to work as maids.

The racket came to light on Friday, a woman from Kadapa was detained by the Immigration authorities at RGIA while she was about to pass the clearance to board a flight from Shamshabad to Dubai. The officials recovered a fake work permit from her possession.

On Saturday, a group of 11 women, who also hailed from Kadapa, booked the air tickets to travel to Dubai from Shamshabad airport. During the immigration check, the women showed the tourist visas to the officials. When the officials asked them about their travel plans, they were taken aback and produced the work visas too.

Surprised to see two visas in the possession of women, the officials detained them for questioning, as they cannot have two different visas. The Immigration authorities found another batch of 11 women carrying two kinds of visas on Sunday. The same incident was repeated on November 29, and the officials at RGIA detained 11 more women from Rajampet in Kadapa district for possessing two different visas.

The investigation revealed that the agents had been sending several illiterate women by giving them fake work permits by collecting huge amounts varying from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh. The women were all willing to work as maids in Dubai and send the money back to India to their family members.

A police officer from Cyberabad said the genuine process of acquiring a work permit by an illiterate person would cost around Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh, after undergoing medical and other tests, which is called as ‘Protectors of Emigrants’ clearance.

The officer said “People who are going to Dubai for employment mostly take a tourist visa first and then secure work permit once they secured the employment. In this case, the women are all illiterate and they do not know whether the visas issued to them are genuine or not.
