Mahbubnagar: The SC, ST & BC students associations at Palamuru University called for unity among all backward classes to lead political power in the country.

Commemorating 125th death anniversary of ‘Mahatma Jyoti Rao Phule,’ at the university seminar hall, the students voiced protest over the Backward Classes in the country facing discrimination in all respects and were not being given proper representation in politics as per population ratio.

Recalling the great social reforms initiated by Mahatma Phule in 18th century, such as women education and eradication of caste system, Mahbubnagar MLA Srinivas Goud said, “Education is the only weapon to bring about change in the society.

It is the responsibility of every student to bring awareness and change. The BCs, SCs and STs must work together to have a say in politics and ensure their rights are protected.” Shakuntala, PU SFI student leader said, “The BCs, SCs and STs together constitute about 93 per cent country’s population.

But they are being ruled by the elite and rich which account for only 7 per cent of the population. The BCs alone account for 56 per cent, but they are not being given proper representation in the elections. Not a single BC leader has become a CM or a PM till date.”
