Karimnagar: A 26-year-old woman, Somishetty Sarada, attempted suicide by setting herself on fire in front of the Dharmapuri police station on Sunday afternoon.
Sarada, a resident of Dharmapurii temple town, left the house along with a kerosene tin, informing the family members that she was going to ration shop to get kerosene. She went behind a laundry shop, in front of Dhramapuri Circle Inspector and doused herself with kerosene and lit a match around 3 pm on the day. Unable to bear the pain, she ran to the main road.
The police came out of the station and doused the flames and shifted her to Jagtial government hospital, where she was undergoing treatment. Her condition was said to be serious as she has sustained 90 percent burn injuries.
Refusing to reveal the names of any persons responsible for her decision, Sarada informed the police that she decided to end her life as she was betrayed by a person. However, Sarada’s mother Bhudevi said that her daughter was living with a person, Ravi as she does not have husband.
Meanwhile, police informed that the spot where Sarada attempted suicide was not in front of the police station but it was about 200 to 300 yards away from the police station.
She neither approached the police nor lodged any complaint seeking help from the cops, they said. Dharmapuri police registered a case and investigating the matter.
