Gajwel: The farmhouse of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in Erravelli village reverberated with vedic chants by Ritwiks at ‘Ayutha Maha Chandi Yagam’ on Thursday, the second day of the holy ritual.

Welcomed by Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and priests, the Chief Minister and his wife K Sobharani reached the Yagashala at around 9.35 in the morning.

Ruthwiks Gopikrishna Sharma, Phani Shashanka Sharma and Harinatha Sharma, in the presence of Narahari Subramanya Bhat and the Chief Minister, performed Guru Prarthana in front of Chandi Matha’s idol.

Then they performed 2,000 Sapthasati, 30 lakh Navarana Puja, Satushhashti Yogini Bali and Maha Ganapathi Puja one after the other.

Supreme Court Justice Chalameshwar, Hetero Drugs Chairman Parthasaradhi Reddy, Director Ratnakar Reddy and Yashoda Hospital Director Surender Rao took part in the rituals.

Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, along with his family members, was present at the Yagashala, witnessing the rituals. Nominated Anglo-Indian MLA Stephenson also attended the Maha Yagam.

Sringeri Bali Peethadhipathi Vidhusekhara Bharati Mahaswamy’s father Kuppa Siva Subramaniam and his grandfather Kuppa Gopala Vajpayee took part in the Yagam and blessed the Chief Minister.

Ministers Indrakaran Reddy, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, MPs, MLAs and MLCs took part in the event. DGP Anurag Sharma too attended the holy event in traditional attire. Union Ministers Venkaiah Naidu and Bandaru Dattatreya were given a grand welcome with music as they reached the Yagasthali. Along with the CM, they performed rituals at the fire pit (homam).

As part of the second day’s rituals, Go Puja, Ekadasanyasa Poorvaka Dwisahasra Chandi Parayanams, Maha Dhanvantari Yagam, Rajasyamala Chaturveda Maharudra Purascharanalu, Mahasouram, Kumari, Suvasini, Dampati Puja and Maha Mangala Harathi were performed. Though the number of devotees attending the Maha Yagam increased four times as compared to the first day’s event, adequate arrangements were in place to meet the needs of all the devotees.

All women performing Kumkumarchana were also given sarees as gifts. Kumkumarchana would be performed every day between 10 am and 1 pm until December 27.

Meanwhile, the state BJP unit criticized the event accusing the Chief Minister of misusing government machinery and wasting public money. The Chief Minister had dismissed the charge, claiming that no government money was being spent for the ‘Yagam’ (ritual). The Opposition Congress, and the CPI(M) had on Wednesday attacked the ruling TRS for alleged misuse of government machinery. Alleging that donations have been received from contractors and businessmen by the ruling TRS, All India Congress Committee spokesperson and former MP Madhu Yashki Goud demanded that the details of such collections be made public. Congress would seek a CBI inquiry into the matter otherwise, he said.

The CPI(M) alleged that the “Yagam’ being performed by the CM was against the Constitution as it promoted superstition among people.
