Karimnagar: CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy felt that the demand for according national status for Pranahita-Chevella irrigation project has been sidetracked with the State government’s decision to redesign and change the site of the project.

Besides formation of separate Telangana State, national status for Pranahita-Chevella was one of the main demands during the movement for separate State but the focus has been gradually diverted followed the government decision to alter the design, said Venkat Reddy while speaking to reporters here on Thursday. However, the government was again trying to construct the project at the old site at Thummidihutti of Adilabad district, he informed and added that the priority of the project has been reduced by planning another project at Medigadda on the River Godavari.

Stating that the government was intentionally delaying the projects by taking unilateral decisions on the redesign of projects, he said that the Opposition parties were reportedly attacked by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi forces if anybody tries to question the government decisions. Delay of the projects was nothing but to prevent the water flow, he opined.

Talking about the cancelation of Thotapalli reservoir, the CPI leader termed the government’s claim that wastage of Rs 900 crore public money and inundation of villages and agricultural lands were avoided with the cancelation of Thotapalli, as false. The developmental activity in Thotapalli of Chigurumamidi mandal was stalled since ten years. Venkat Reddy demanded Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and the government to disclose the reasons for the cancelation of the project.

The CPI leader alleged that the ruling TRS has flowed money like water in the recently MLC elections to purchase local bodies leaders and about Rs 3 to Rs 5 lakh was offered to each MPTC vote.

He also found fault with the CPI (ML) New Democracy for taking neutral stand in MLC polls paving way for the victory of the TRS candidate in Khammam district.
