Hyderabad: Telangana choreographers, art directors, junior artistes, stuntmen, costume designers and make-up artistes out of the 24 cine workers’ unions are heaving a big sigh of relief since Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao assured support to their cause and would be reportedly meeting them soon to listen to their legitimate demands.

“We have formed Telangana Film Industry Employees Federation to protect the interests of Telangana-born dancers, junior artistes, costumers, stuntmen and get our due share of work in Telugu films made in our TS,” says choreographer Basheer, general secretary of the newly-formed body.

“Hundreds of members belonging to the 24 unions suffered in the hands of Andhra-dominated AP Film Industry Employees Federation for the last 20 years and were even denied a basic membership card. Even their membership fee ranges between Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh which is unaffordable for thousands of poor workers. But now any talented worker can enroll with Rs 150 application fee in our union,” he adds.

More than 600-odd members of different crafts have joined the Telangana union to showcase their talent and make a career in T-town. “The Chief Minister gave us assurance after listening to our woes and assured to meet 250-odd members on January 2 to help us out,” says an art director on condition of anonymity.

When contacted, Vijayendar Reddy, president, Telangana Film Industry Employees Federation, admits that the newly-formed body is gaining credence with the government.

“We have sought an appointment with Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and we are eagerly looking forward to meet him to resolve our workers issues but date of appointment is not fixed yet,” adds Vijayender Reddy.
