All parties gear up for baldia battle
Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K Chandrasekhar Rao is aiming to score a century in the ensuing GHMC polls, the civic body’s first since bifurcation.
Among the major decisions taken at Sunday’s TRS Legislature Party meeting was to go it alone. That apart, it has also decided to hand over the responsibility of leading the campaign to the young brigade led by IT and Panchayat Raj minister K T Rama Rao and Nizamabad MP K Kavitha. It has also decided to launch its campaign on Tuesday besides allocating division-wise responsibilities to MLAs.
Not to be left behind in terms of strategies or otherwise, the TTDP-BJP combine and the Congress party are also gearing up for the civic polls. The BJP will be holding its first major public meeting at Anandbagh cross roads in Malkajgiri on Monday. Among the high-profile speakers will be Union Minister for Roads and Highways Nitin Gadkari.
The TTDP leaders are trying to rope in Nara Lokesh to lead the campaign in the GHMC elections. The Congress party also met on Sunday at Gandhi Bhavan where a huge rush of ticket aspirants and their followers raised slogans eulogizing their respective division leaders and held high flexies and banners. This show of strength led to traffic snarls.
TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that while the Congress party, which would be launching its padayatras from Monday, has decided to harp on highlighting the achievements of the earlier Congress governments in the undivided Andhra Pradesh, particularly with regard to develop the city, would simultaneously ‘expose the failures of TRS government and opportunistic politics of MIM’.
The TRS managers feel that since the wind was blowing in their favour, they should not go in for criticising the opposition parties but rather focus attention on highlighting the various developmental works the government had launched in the past 19 months. This would also cover the slew of sops announced by the Chief Minister. Quoting various survey reports, KCR, who is campaign on the last two days, told the party leaders that they were sure of coming to power in GHMC on their own. He underscored the possibility of winning 100 seats.
Although, there seems to be no truck with any party, including the AIMIM, there is a distinct possibility of post-poll tie-ups alliance at the time of mayor elections. Telangana TDP and its poll partner BJP on Sunday resolved to expose the ‘ misdeeds’ of the TRS government and its failure in fulfilling the promises made to city denizens in the 2014 general election. TDP would also start its campaign from Tuesday and would work alongside BJP.
