Hyderabad: National Backward Classes Welfare Association (NBCWA) on Saturday said injustice was meted out to the Backward Classes (BCs), SC and ST communities in providing reservation in wards in the ensuing Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.

In an open letter to the State Election Commission, the association president R Krishnaiah, State unit president J Srinivas Goud and MRPS president Krishna Madiga alleged that the authorities played foul in finalising reservations in 150 wards in the civic body.

Since BCs constituted 50 per cent of the total population, they should have got half of the total wards. Only 50 wards had been reserved for BCs. The SC and STs also got raw deal by reserving only 10 and 2 wards respectively.

Under the constitutional right, SC should be given 21 wards and STs 10 in the corporation, they said. Hailing the government for allotting mayor post to BCs, the two leaders demanded that the TRS government protect the constitutional rights of BCs, SCs and STs and reconsider the reservation of seats.
