Hyderabad: With 50 percent seats having been reserved for women in the GHMC elections, all parties are now hit with the Biwi, Beti aur Didi syndrome. Several ex-corporators and new aspirants who had already launched their campaign in many wards hoping for party ticket were left disappointed as those constituencies had become reserved for women in general category.

Taken aback by this development and as they do not want to lose a chance, they are now making a beeline to their respective party offices accompanied by their wives, sisters and daughters to seek ticket for them.

“I wanted to contest but now that my ward is reserved for women, I am approaching the party to seek ticket for my wife. I got the numbers and she will be the face,” said a former corporator and close aide of former minister Marri Shashidhar Reddy.

A TRS aspirant, who had already completed first phase of campaign in the Khairatabad division, is now contemplating to propose the name of his wife for the party ticket. The situation is no different in other constituencies like A S Rao Nagar, Azampura, Nallakunta, Ameerpet, Saroornagar and other wards.

Meanwhile, the TDP and BJP leaders held a marathon meeting on Saturday to discuss the issue of seat adjustment and work out strategies for poll campaign. According to TTDP leaders both the parties would hold a joint public meeting at Nizam College grounds on January 12.

The party leaders claim that the TDP national president N Chandrababu Naidu would address the meeting along with Union ministers like M Venkaiah Naidu, Bandaru Dattatreya and Sujana Chowdary. Both the parties are yet to arrive at any clear understanding on seat sharing. TTDP is demanding 100 seats while the BJP was willing to concede 65.

Interestingly, the prominence of Mahila Congress, has suddenly got the much-needed boost. Nerella Sharada said they would hold a huge meeting in Prakasam Hall of Gandhi Bhavan, which would be attended by its national president Shobha Ojha.
