Hyderabad: Telangana State Election Commissioner V Nagi Reddy has said that the local government would play effective role in development activities in Greater Hyderabad. He exhorted the citizens to strengthen the local body administration by participating in the election process in Hyderabad.
Nagi Reddy was speaking at Meet-the-Media programme organised by the Telangana Working Journalists Federation (TWJF) and Hyderabad Union of Journalists (HUJ) at Sundaraiah Vignana Kendram here on Saturday.
Nagi Reddy said without increase in the voting percentage in the elections, development would not be possible as voters’ participation in the elections would definitely improve the people’s economical growth and lifestyle. He said the Election Commission has arranged 7,700 polling stations in the GHMC limits. In the annual budget, the GHMC would spend Rs 10,000 per head under GHMC limits to strengthen their lifestyle and infrastructure, he added.
He also said that the Election Commission would appoint a returning officer for each division in the GHMC elections. Stating that corruption plays a crucial role in the elections, he appealed to the people to curb the malady as ‘elections are the beginning point of corruption in India’.
He urged the people to question the candidates if they offer money to cast votes for them. He reminded the people that if they accept money to support political parties in the election process, they would lose their right to question the people’s representatives regarding development activities in their areas.
The State Election Commissioner appealed to the people to check their voter registration online in the web portal of TSEC (tsec.gov.in) and CEO Telangana (ceotelangana.nic.in). He said the Telangana State Election Commission has developed the web portal tsec.gov.in to help the citizens to search their names and take a printout of voter slip containing name, serial number in the voters list and location of polling station.
Nagi Reddy also appealed to managements of private companies to facilitate voting by their employees by declaring holiday or giving sufficient time on the polling day. He also disclosed that 3,500 web cameras would be used in the election process for observing election process and Special Forces would be deployed at problem-prone divisions in GHMC elections.
TS Election Commission would release election notification to Warangal and Khammam Municipal Corporations soon, he added. HUJ secretary Padma Raj, TWJF State general secretary B Basava Punnaiah, Somaiah, Anandam and others participated.
