Khammam: All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) national vice-president Sarampalli Malla Reddy has accused the Narendra Modi-led NDA government of bending towards the privatisation of public sector units (PSUs).

Speaking at a seminar in which leaders of Rythu Sangham, CITU and Vyavasaya Karmika Sangham participated here on Tuesday, he criticised the Central government for its efforts for selling off several profit-making PSUs to multi-national companies.

“Both the Central and the State governments are bulldozing the rights of working class besides reducing working days and salaries. Moreover, the government stopped recruiting people for permanent jobs and is relying on contract workers,” Reddy said.

He criticised the government for reducing the funds for employment guarantee scheme. As a result, the labourers were getting only 40 to 60 days of work each year instead of 100 days, he lamented.

This has led to the migration of 13.50 lakh people in nine districts of Telangana, he said. Referring to the TRS’ poll promise of distributing three-acre land to landless Dalits, Reddy said that so far the government had only managed to distribute 1,500 acres in the state.

“The TRS hasn’t delivered on even a single promise out of its 39 promises,” he said, accusing the government responsible for farmers’ suicides. Stating that all the irrigation projects have come to a halt in the name of redesigning, he called upon farmers and working class to unite and fight against the government’s anti-people policies.

Referring to the suicide of research scholar Vemula Rohith at University of Hyderabad, Reddy squarely blamed the BJP-led Central government for the incident.

Rythu Sangham Telangana State joint secretary Nunna Nageswara Rao, Madineni Ramesh, Macha Venkateswarlu, Kalyanam Venkateswara Rao, K Narsimha Rao and B Madhu were among others present.
