Hyderabad: Congress leader and Rajya Sabha Member V Hanumantha Rao has slammed those who criticised AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi for visiting University of Hyderabad campus. “Gandhi visited the campus to find out the cause behind the suicide of socially-disadvantaged student Rohith Vemula,” he said here on Thursday.

Speaking at “meet-the-media” programme, organised by Telangana Working Journalists Federation at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram here, Hanumantha Rao felt that it was the social responsibility of every citizen to wage a fight against the communal agenda being advanced by the BJP and its Parivar.

He said the Congress party leaders in the Telangana State had failed to focus their attention fully at grass root level during the 2014 general elections to win more seats. He said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was trying to win the GHMC elections by hook or crook. He alleged that the TRS was trying to influence the voters with money power. The ruling party was also employing its power to beat the Opposition, he said.

He said the RSS and ABVP were calling the shots in Delhi and the BJP-led NDA government was very much under the thumb of the RSS parivar. He alleged that the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad was the sympathiser of ABVP and he had RSS background. He demanded that Union Minister of State for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya and Human Resource Minister Smrithi Irani be dismissed from the Union Cabinet.
