Congress leader Mohammed Shabbir Ali has taken up the issue of Dummugudem project renaming in his letter to Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao where he opposed the decision.

The TS Cabinet had decided to redesign the Dummugudem lift irrigation project in Khammam district and rename it as Srirama irrigation project in the name of Lord Rama in order to avoid political controversies as few political parties had been demanding the project be named after former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.

The Congress leader in his letter urged the Chief Minister to rename the project as ‘Rama Indira’ and ‘Rajiv’ projects as renaming the project, that is named after the Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi is humiliating to the former Prime Ministers of India.
