Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Prisons V K Singh condemned the demand of a few political parties and social groups that have opposed the entry of police in to universities, courts and places of worship. He said time and again police have been getting commands and demands from different institutions like courts, universities, places of worship and others, not to enter their premises without permission even if they have court orders for search or despite having sufficient evidences to enter the premises and search them.

“I want to state that there is no such provision in law which expressively forbids police from entering such places. The Act does not mandate police to take any permission from anybody to enter such places if they have sufficient evidence or suspicion of illegal activities taking place,” DG VK Singh said. Expressing his concern, the DG called it as legal and social untouchability towards police being practiced by certain strong and vested social groups.

“Police cannot be martyrs and untouchable in the same breathe,” he opined. All such demands from any group restricting the access of police to courts, varsities and places of worship is practice of social and legal untouchability and ploy of vested interests. It need to be condemned and not complied with by the police, he said in a press release on Thursday.

“Being the Secretary of IPS Officers Association, I request all the Director Generals of Police of the country to resist political use of police and break all these executive preserves, whosoever they are. Police are agents of law and they need no permission from anybody to anywhere except as per law,” the DG added.
