The ruling TRS’s plans to win unanimously at least some of the wards in Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation elections has kept the opposition parties on tenterhooks. Warangal: The ruling TRS’s plans to win unanimously at least some of the wards in Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) elections has kept the opposition parties on tenterhooks. As the withdrawal of nominations took place on Thursday, the TRS allegedly tried to make the contesting candidates of the main stream parties and independents to withdraw their nominations to ensure unanimous election in some wards.

This in turn compelled the Congress, TDP and BJP to make hard efforts to guard their nominees from falling preys to the lures of the TRS. The opposition parties complained that the ruling party threatened and tried to kidnap the TDP and BJP candidates to give up contest.

“The TRS men tried to kidnap a BJP candidate, while many others were threatened to withdraw their nomination in favour of the TRS,” complained former BJP MLA M Dharma Rao. ‘I foiled the attempt by the TRS men to kidnap the party nominee for 24th division, K Madhavi,’ he said.

Speaking to The Hans India, BJP senior leader T Rajeshwar Rao felt there should be healthy competition in electoral politics in a democracy. But the TRS wants to win all the 58 divisions. The BJP candidates in 5, 24 and 47 divisions were harassed to withdraw their nominations, he alleged.

‘This is not good in a democratic set up and the TRS must know it’ he added. ‘The TRS is misusing its power. Sadly, the State Election Commission (SEC) authorities failed to act. If the SEC officials failed to stop the ruling party’s misuse of power, we will take the issue to the notice of Election Commission of India,’ said the Greater BJP in-charge K Venkateshwarlu.

‘A TRS MLC mustered few independents at his residence at Ramnagar in Hanamkonda and forced them to withdraw their nominations and even manhandled them,’ alleged the BJP leaders. On the other hand, the TDP leadership forced to organise a camp of their candidates in Hyderabad on the day to prevent the TRS from contacting them.

The party district president G Satyanarayana Rao said the TRS leaders have offered Rs 10 lakh to their candidates to withdraw their nominations. It might be noted that instead of the candidates, the leaders of TDP, BJP and Congress have submitted the B-forms of their official candidates at the last hour of the withdrawal of nominations to counter the TRS’ efforts to trap their candidates.
