The 29-year-old Aashritha Reddy, who completed her B Tech in Information Technology and MBA in Finance, is in the poll fray from the 24th Division of GWMC elections and has a huge challenge ahead of her, albeit she was contesting on the ruling TRS party ticket. Aashritha is the daughter-in-law of Rajya Sabha member Gundu Sudharani.
Warangal: The recent Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election has seen a former Google employee Samala Hema winning the Sitaphalmandi Division and making it to the 150-member civic body with elan. A la Samala, here we have ex-employees of two multinational information technology companies the Google and the TCS and scores of highly qualified thrown their hat in the ring for the civic body election to Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC).
With the hopes of securing BC votes, especially Padmashali community, and the Reddy community votes, Aashritha appears to be frontrunner to win Ramannapet Division pipping five others in the race. Moreover, Sudharani’s hold in the region could come as an added advantage. It may be mentioned here that Sudharani also started her political career as a councilor.
The other young turk in the race is 24-year-old Sobiya Sabahat, an M Tech student of KITS Engineering College here, contesting the 31st Division. She is a close relative of the TRS Minority Cell district president Naeem.
After B Tech, Sobiya worked with the TCS as a software engineer for about one-and-a-half year. She left the job to pursue masters degree. Now, she jumped into the politics inspired by her husband Asif Mustafa and Naeem.
With a considerable Muslim population in the 31st Division (Alankar Theatre, new Bus Stand and Laxmipuram areas) and contesting on the TRS ticket, she had a fair chance of making it to the civic body.
The 22-year-old computer science techie Gorantla Sruthi, is keen to follow in the footsteps of her father Raju, who has been the Congress City Block president for the last 15 years. With the number of Padmashali community votes in the 14th Division are said to be over 3,500, Sruthi appears to be in a comfortable position.
