The officials of the district celebrated the International Women’s Day at the Rajiv  Gandhi Auditorium and felicitated a few women professionals.

Nizamabad: Women empowerment would become a reality only when women start taking decisions confidently said District Collector Yogita Rana, on the occasion of women’s day celebrations which were organised here on Tuesday. The officials of the district celebrated the International Women’s Day at the Rajiv Gandhi Auditorium and felicitated a few women professionals, sportspersons and those who carved out a niche for themselves in various fields.

On the occasion, the Nizamabad Mayor Aakula Sujatha, Zilla Parishad Vice-chairman Sumana Reddy, Indian hockey team member Yendela Soundarya, Indian women cricket team player Sneha More, mountaineer Malavat Poorna, boxer Nikath Zareen, football player Guguloth Soumya and the chairpersons of Armoor and Kamareddy municipalities Swathi Singh and Sushma.

Continuing her speech, the District Collector said that in our society, women should be able to command respect from their own family members and then the society should treat them with respect. She advised the family members not to discriminate against the girl children and added that she should be treated on par with the male child.

Rana advised the women to prevent abortions and female foeticides and protect the girl child. She advised the women to utilise the Aarogya Lakshmi scheme properly. Nizamabad Mayor Aakula Sujatha gave a call to the society to prevent female foeticides and protect girls. She said that Goddesses Lakshmi, Saraswathi and Parvati were also women and without them, the entire society would collapse.

She said that educating a girl child would be useful to the entire society and women play a key role in raising families. Girls were in no way inferior to boys and they should be encouraged, she added. Zilla Parishad chairman D Raju, Joint Collector Rajaram, NCPL project director Sudhakar, ICDS in-charge project director Meera Bennarji and others were present on the occasion.
