Telangana adventures with tourism
The City of Minarets which attracts tourists from across the world would soon emerge as a hub of ‘Adventure Tourism’. On the lines of Singapore, Malaysia and other western countries , the Telangana government has decided to come out with a blueprint to promote tourism in a big way by introducing adventure activities like paragliding, skydiving, skiing on water, helicopter jump and amphibian bus
Hyderabad: The City of Minarets which attracts tourists from across the world would soon emerge as a hub of ‘Adventure Tourism’. On the lines of Singapore, Malaysia and other western countries , the Telangana government has decided to come out with a blueprint to promote tourism in a big way by introducing adventure activities like paragliding, skydiving, skiing on water, helicopter jump and amphibian bus journey.
Taking a cue from the overwhelming response to the recently-introduced 'Heli-Tourism' in the city, the tourism department has decided to introduce parachute jump and helicopter skydiving initially. Places have already been identified for the promotion of the adventure sport-cum tourism event on the outskirts of Greater Hyderabad. Private partners would be invited to promote the individual events.
Tourism secretary B Venkatesham told The Hans India that the government was planning to invite global tenders to establish the required infrastructure. In view of the growing enthusiasm among tourists visiting the city to get the experience of joy riding, the official said an ‘amphibian bus’ journey would be introduced connecting major tourist spots around Hussainsagar.
These buses, costing nearly Rs 2 crore, would run both on road and water. Tourists would start the journey on the bus from Buddha Bhavan to Tank Bund and proceed to Birla Mandir. In return, the bus would come to Hussainsagar and run on its waters. Proposals have been made to promote amphibian bus journey at Nagarjunasagar, Warangal and Adilabad where reservoirs on irrigation projects have been constructed. Plans to introduce skiing on water at reservoirs are also under consideration, Venkatesham said.
Apart from adventure tourism, the official said mid-way points (eateries and mini shopping malls) would be established on state and national highways. These points would help tourists have recreation during their travel in Telangana. An official team had already conducted a visit to the India’s biggest mid-way point located between Delhi and Jaipur, which has attracted national attention because of the huge buzz surrounding the cultural programmes.
