Hyderabad: Pilgrimage tourism got a boost in the State with government allocating adequate grants for the development of prominent temples across state. Presenting the budget, Finance Minister E Rajender said the rich cultural heritage of Telangana State remained neglected for long. Several initiatives had been taken to regain the past glory after the formation of the State.
He stated that keeping alive the Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb, the government has been celebrating Ramzan and Christmas as State festivals. Apart from it, to develop prominent pilgrim centres of Yadagirigutta and Vemulavada, the government had set up the Yadagirigutta Development Authority and Vemulavada Development Authority, he said.
Further, he said, after the formation of the State, there was much greater awareness on the rich cultural heritage and places of tourist attraction and historic importance. "Facilities will be developed at these places in a phased manner," he said. "As the balance in the Common Good Fund is not adequate to fund restoration of historic temples, an amount of Rs 50 crore has been proposed as a one-time grant in the budget," he added.
Allocating Rs 232 crore towards Youth Affairs, Tourism and Culture Department, the Finance Minister said in order to encourage sportspersons, the government had enhanced cash awards in January 2016. Sportspersons winning gold medals in Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and National Games would now be given cash awards amounting Rs 2 crore, Rs 30 lakh, Rs 25 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, respectively.
