Mahbubnagar: The State and Central governments have sanctioned Rs 53.5 crore to Mahbubnagar district for mitigating the water woes during this summer. As the drought situation is worsening every passing day, the district administration is conducting day-to-day review on drinking water situation in the district.

As part of this, the district vigilance and monitoring committee conducted a review meeting with the district officials and people’s representatives at the Revenue Meeting Hall on Monday. Nagarkurnool MP and chairman of the committee Nandi Yellaiah said that funds released from the Central government meant for village development should reach the beneficiaries in time and demanded that the State government give primary focus to providing drinking water in rural areas.

The MP observed that in view of severe drought conditions prevailing not just in Telangana but the entire country this year, there was a need for both the State and Central governments to give priority for providing drinking water. Prior to this, MLAs D K Aruna from Gadwal, Venkateshwar Reddy from Devarkadra, Sampath Kumar from Illampu, mandal parishad presidents and others poured their woes relating to inadequate water tankers, delayed payment of tanker and leased bore-wells bills to the chairman of the vigilance monitoring committee.

Yellaiah asked the District Water Management Authority (DWMA) Project Director to appoint doctors at working place of MGNREGA workers and asked them to clear all the medical and other bills of the workers on time. MLC Kuchukurla Damodar Reddy, who raised the issue of misuse of funds and improper implementation of the housing scheme demanded a reply on the issue. In response to this, the committee chairman sought a detailed report on the issue from the authorities.
