Dichaplly (Nizamabad): District Collector Yogitha Rana said that the local representatives of the people have a major role to play in the implementation of the Mission Bhagiratha and by June 30, every house in 121 villages in the all mandals of the district would get drinking water tap connections. Addressing an awareness camp on Mission Bhagiratha here on Wednesday with members of self-help groups, MPPs, ZTPCs, MPTCs, and sarpanches belonging to the mandals of Armoor, Kamareddy, Jakranpalli, Machareddy, Balkonda and SS Nagar, she said that works were taken up at a cost of Rs 1311 crore to supply drinking water to 121 villages thorugh Mission Bhagiratha.
The District Collector said that an intake well would be constructed with the backwaters of Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) and through this well, 14 crore liters of water would be supplied to the water purifying plants which would be constructed at Argul, Indalvaayi and Mallannagunta. Sub-pipelines would be laid in the villages to connect them to the major pipelines to supply water, she added.
Yogitha Rana said that among the 121 villages, 45 villages have 144 water tanks already and steps would be taken to construct water tanks in the remaining 76 villages. She told the sarpanches to examine the design of the pipelines at the field level prepared by the Rural Water Supply department to supply water to each and every house in the villages.
The District Collector said that the new pipelines were designed keeping in view the growing population in towns and villages and their water requirements in the district for the next 15 years. She said that a comprehensive plan was prepared to quench the thirst of the people till the year 2033 and the State Government has taken it as a prestigious issue. This was not a project for the contractors to make profits, she added.
Collector Rana said that from now on, the MGNREGS workers should be involved in the digging of water harvesting pits every Thursday and Friday. She expressed happiness that after implementing the Swachh Bharat campaign, more students have started attending schools in villages. Contaminated and contagious diseases have come down, she added.
She said that 300 students of ITI have been roped in to provide tap connections to all the houses in villages. Similarly, 35 students of ITI from the district have been sent to Gajwel in Medak district for the Mission Bhagiratha works.
She urged the people to dis water harvesting pits to improve the ground water levels as very household needs 300 to 400 litres of water every day.
