Warangal: Giving a spiritual touch to rain water harvesting, Warangal Mayor N Narender and 50th municipal division corporator D Vijay Bhasker have on Sunday launched construction of water harvesting pits in several religious places.

The programme, initiated by the corporator, was held at temples, churches and masjids within the limits of the division after offering prayers. Similarly, the rain water harvesting pits have also been constructed at 150 residences in the division at the same time while the prayers were being offered at the religious places.

Speaking on the occasion, Vijay Bhasker said that the programme was conducted with an intention to create awareness among the public and to highlight the importance of harvesting rain water to recharge ground water.

“Water is a treasure given by nature and ensuring its supply in abundance would be a valuable gift for future generations. Everyone has to pay attention to this fact and come forward to construct water harvesting pits voluntarily,” he added.

Mayor Narender appreciated the initiative by the corporator and said construction of rain water harvesting pits has been going on like a movement in Warangal West assembly segment with active involvement of MLA D Vinay Bhasker.

He lauded the participation of public in the construction of water harvesting pits. The Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation would extend all possible support to the people in this regard and was offering concessions on taxes, he added.

Similarly, in 30th division the local corporator Sobiya Sabahat launched the construction of water harvesting pits and appealed the locals to lend their part to tap naturally available water for future use.
