As many as 14 tables have been arranged for counting votes and each table would be managed by a supervisor and an assistant beside a micro-observer. According to the Collector, the counting will be completed in 17 rounds and the entire process of the counting will be video graphed. The compact disks (CDs) of video footage of counting will be given to the candidates.

Election Observer Palani Swamy, Joint Collector D Divya, trainee Collector Md Musharraf Ali Farooqui, DRO B Srinivas and Returning Officer (RO) B Shankar took part in the training session of the counting process given to the staff. The authorities issued counting passes to 51 persons out of the total 132 applied for it.

It may be mentioned here that polling for the by-election to the Palair Assembly constituency was held on Monday, in which about 90 percent of voters of the total electorate 1,90,351 exercised their right of franchise. All four mandals - Khammam rural (88.74%), Kusumanchi (89.71%), Nelakondapalli (90.76%) and Tirumalayapalem (90.29%) – of the constituency witnessed a similar trend of voter turnout with not much to differentiate between them.

Apart from Congress’ Ramreddy Sucharitha, TRS’ Tummala Nageswar Rao and CPM’s Pothineni Sudarshan Rao, 10 other candidates are also in the fray.
