Mahbubnagar: Minister Irrigation T Harish Rao on Friday warned the construction agencies of action if they were found deliberately delaying the works on the Irrigation projects.

While reviewing the SLBC (Srisailam Left Bank Canal) tunnel works at Mannevari Pally village under Achampeta mandal in Mahabubnagar district, the Minister pulled up the officials and the contractors for “deliberately delaying the Tunnel inlet works on the pretext of non-availability of spare parts. “The construction agency has attributed to slow down of the pace of works at SLBC due to lack of spare parts.

But we are not convinced with this, and have directed them to procure require spare parts at the earliest and finish the works on time,” asserted Harish Rao at a press briefing. However, the Minister said that the outlet works of SLBC were going on at the intended pace.

To remove the hurdles in the way of the SLBC project, earlier, the Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao had conducted an all-party meeting in the Assembly and took suggestions from the leaders to speed up the works on the SLBC and various other projects in the State.

While referring to farmers losing lands under the Dindi Barrage Reservoir, Harish Rao promised that all those farmers who were losing their lands under the irrigation projects in the district would be adequately compensated and said that there was no need for them to worry about the compensation.

Further the Minister directed the Revenue officials and authorities concerned to complete all the formalities of land acquisition and help speed up the works on all the irrigation projects in the district. Apart from the earlier Government Order (GO), the State government had released a new land acquisition G.O 123 according to which the farmers who would lose their land under the Dindi project would be compensated.

Till date more than 720 acres of land had been acquired under the Dindi Barrage reservoir project and the government had released Rs. 30 crores to the district towards payment of compensation, said the Minister.

Referring to recent agitations and hunger strikes by some leaders in Andhra Pradesh, the Minister reiterated, “Come what may, our government is determined to complete Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya in the next two years and provide drinking and irrigation water to the people.”

The Minister also advised the opposition parties to extend their cooperation in completing these projects and said that the government was ready to heed to the constructive criticism and positive advices from all sections of the people which would guide it to reach the intended goal.
