Thirumalagiri (Nalgonda): Acting on a tip off the excise and police department staff raided trader Srinivasulu’s house at Thirumalagiri mandal headquarters on Friday and seized as many as 70 bags of black jaggery.

Speaking to media Thirumalagiri SI Mahesh and Excise SI Mallaiah said that there is a ban on sale of black jaggery which is a main ingredient in the production of illicitly-distilled liquor (ID) or gudumba and is considered to be the impure form of jaggery.

Police registered a case and informed that a report would be sent to superiors for taking future course of action. Black jaggery seized in Thirumalagiri is raising questions on the official declaration of a free gudumba district and emphasising the need to focus on black jaggery sales across the district.
