Hyderabad: TJAC chairman Prof M Kodandaram slammed Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for once again trying to create confusion among the people of his State, by questioning the rationality behind bifurcation and terming it as a ‘hasty decision’.

Speaking on Saturday at the launch of the book ‘Telangana Sadhana – Gandhivadam-Punarsthapana’ written by senior journalist Ramji Singh Udayan of Varanasi, Kodandaram said that despite clarifications from different quarters about the context, rationale and necessity for the Telangana struggle, Chandrababu Naidu had resumed his rhetoric on the occasion of Telangana formation day.

Referring to the book, which was written by an independent observer based in Uttar Pradesh, the TJAC Chairman said that the Movement was more than 90 years old and saw various fluctuations under all governments.

Kodandaram recalled that in 2009 itself, there was clear indication of bifurcation and all the political parties had set their agenda based on the issue. Later, the Central government had formed a Group of Ministers and at least three crucial all- Party meetings were held in New Delhi with the agenda of bifurcation.

“The constitutional process took at least 5 years and it was not a hasty decision. Chandrababu should refrain from misleading his people,” he said. Speaking about the book and its author, Kodandaram said that the book had brought alive the suffering and struggle of the common people who were part of the bigger struggle instead of just focussing on the political situation and efforts of the leaders.

“Had this kind of book appeared at the time of the Movement, we could have explained things better to the politicians and bureaucrats. Nevertheless, the book is still essential when we visit New Delhi,” he opined. Ramji Singh Udayan recalled that it was Ramulu, a miner who discovered the Kohinoor diamond in Golconda and said it was unfortunate that Ramulu could not get to keep the diamond.

“Those who had struggled for Telangana and were part of Million March and Sagara Haram are yet to realise the dream of Telangana,” he observed. He drew a parallel between the peaceful struggle of the ‘Arab Spring’ and the Telangana struggle which was also a non-violent one.

However, he said that it took only a single suicide for the ‘Tahrir Square march’ whereas Telangana witnessed hundreds of suicides, even as the entire democratic set –up, sat back and watched. Professor Haragopal, Siasat’s Managing Editor Zaheer Ali Khan and other journalists and academicians were present on the occasion.
