Hyderabad: In connection with the ensuing Ramadan festival, the Hyderabad City Police held a co-ordination meeting of the officials of various departments like Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), TSCPDCL, Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), Fire Services and others, and also with Masjid Committee Presidents and Imams at Salarjung Museum here on Monday.

During the meeting, the religious heads explained about the problems they face during the Ramadan month. The major issues stressed were stagnation of rain and drainage water and lack of adequate street lights near mosques. They also requested the traffic police to make necessary parking arrangements near mosques to avoid traffic congestions.

Addressing the gathering, Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Jitender said, “We will ensure better traffic management at all important mosques and junctions. If some volunteers come forward, it will be far better to manage traffic during peak hours.”

Later, Commissioner of Police M Mahender Reddy said that the police would resolve traffic congestions during the time of prayers and asked the officials of other departments to resolve the problems raised by the religious heads on priority basis.

“Police will be available round the clock to meet the necessities near mosques. I will monitor the problems with other departments on a daily basis by consulting their Head of Departments,” the Commissioner said.

He also said that SHE Teams and patrolling personnel would also be deployed near the shopping areas in Old City as many women also come out during the nights for shopping.

GHMC Zonal Commissioner Srinivas Reddy said a dedicated control room was being set up to take care of the requirements and also to monitor sanitary, electrical and any other problems that were under Corporation.

TSCPDCL Superintendent Engineer P Anand said that the electricity department would work 24/7 to provide continuous power supply and extra transformers would be arranged to meet power requirements.
