​Hyderabad: Expressing displeasure at the poor pace and quality of civic works being carried out in the city, Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Minister K Taraka Rama Rao announced that all worn out roads in the city would be re-carpeted in the city on a priority.

The Minister, who carried out surprise inspection of various areas in the city on Monday along with GHMC Commissioner, senior officials, Mayor and Deputy Mayor, informed officials that he was not pleased at the poor maintenance of roads in the city.

The Minister visited Srinagar Colony, Shahpur, Yousufguda, Gajularamaram, Quthbullapur and other areas, following a spate of messages and pictures being posted on the Minister’s Twitter account about the appalling condition of roads in the city. He observed that in many of the areas, roads were not repaired after completion of the civic works.

The Minister informed media after his surprise visit that a special programme would be taken up to repair all battered roads and assured denizens of pothole-free roads during the rainy season. He instructed officials concerned at the circle level to utilise the services of the ‘Road Doctor’ vehicles and start repairing roads.

He said that they would implement the joint working groups in all circle offices which involves all the line departments at the circle level to maintain effective coordination to take up civic works in that region.

KT Rama Rao further said that they would display sign boards at any work place to furnish details the work, time period for completion and the contact number of the officer concerned so that citizens can interact in case of any problem.

He said that GHMC would conduct a convergence meeting on every first Saturday of the month to ensure that works were going in an effective manner.

He said that the workshop, exclusive for civic works, would be conducted on July 16 with all line departments and important stakeholders to make a plan to improve the standards of GHMC services. “Public can see the improvement in GHMC’s services in next 100 days’ action, which ends on September 15,” he said.

The IT Minister also discussed the problem of garbage and construction debris, which has become a menace in several colonies of the city. He asked officials to review the best practices of other municipal corporations like of Delhi and to implement it.

Talking about unauthorised constructions in the city, he said all citizens have to take proper permission for building construction, else face action from corporation officials.
