Warangal: The relay hunger strike by fair price shop dealers demanding the government recognising them as government employees has entered third day on Saturday.

Under the banner of Warangal District Ration Shop Dealers Welfare Association, they were protesting for the past several days in support of their demands. District Congress president N Rajender Reddy and others visited hunger strike camp at Ekasila Park on the day expressing solidarity with the ration dealers.

The protesting ration shop dealers were also demanding a monthly honorarium of Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000.

The association district president B Ramesh Babu alleged that the successive governments have been neglecting their demand to recognise the ration shop dealers as government employees. House sites, interest free loans, health cards and group insurance facility should also be given to the dealers.

There were a total of 2,120 ration shop dealers in the district. The association leaders have met Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and concerned ministers several times, but of no avail, he lamented adding that the commission they were being given was inadequate.

The association has planned conduct a silent march to the district collectorate on June 21.
