Telangana Academy of Sciences to launch mobile scientific labs soon
In what could turn out to be a huge fillip to government schools and colleges across the State, the Telangana Academy of Sciences (TAS) is planning to launch mobile scientific laboratories.
Hyderabad: In what could turn out to be a huge fillip to government schools and colleges across the State, the Telangana Academy of Sciences (TAS) is planning to launch mobile scientific laboratories.
These mobile laboratories would be stationed in the mandal headquarters across the State for about 10 days and would help students, especially those studying in government schools and colleges, for conducting subject- related experiments.
“In rural areas, some government schools and colleges do not have the required laboratory facilities. The mobile vans will help the students of class VIII, IX, X and intermediate, with their practical training,” said Dr Ch Mohan Rao, President of TAS. The Academy will also conduct orientation programmes for teachers which will help to increase the practical knowledge of school teachers, said Dr Mohan Rao.
The Academy has established five regional centres at Nizamabad, Nalgonda, Warangal, Karimnagar and Hyderabad. Each centre would cater to two districts covering the entire State, said Dr Mohan and added that they would invite Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for inaugurating the Academy’s ‘Science Congress’ which would be held soon. This year, the Academy has selected four people for the ‘young scientist’ award.
It will also organise a memorial lecture in the name of Professor Yelavarthy Nayudamma on June 23 which will be delivered by Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology on ‘Delights of Doing Research: Some personal lessons from translational nano-science’. A national seminar on frontiers in science and technology will also be held on the same day.
Former Vice-Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education University B M Hedge, IIT-D Director V Ramgopal Rao and JNU Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar among others would speak at the seminar.
