Detroit (US): Two American cities- Chicago and Detroit- will be agog with a flurry of activities when Telugus will swarm in from all over US and neighbouring Canada for the two major conferences slated for July.

While American Telugu Association (ATA) will celebrate its silver jubilee conference on July 1, 2 and 3, American Telangana Association, a newly-formed outfit for Telangana Telugus in America, will have its first conference.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar and a host of Union and State Ministers from the Telugu States and galaxy of celebrities from Telugu film industry are expected to attend the two conferences. With deadline fast approaching organisers are leaving no stone unturned to make the events roaring successes

The conferences are preceded by colourful fundraising events at Chicago and Detroit a few days ago wherein contributions poured in liberally with local Telugus and organisations hailing from all over America pledged their monetary support to the ensuing events.

The main aim of the two events is to promote the unity of Telugus and showcase the Telugu culture of both the Telugu speaking states. A string of cultural events showcasing the Telugu culture and projects aimed at developing backward villages and welfare projects to ameliorate the plight of farming community and downtrodden will be displayed and discussed at the events. With the Telangana Telugus making a strong bid to focus the region's culture, Bathukumma and Bonalu festival traditions will be the cynosure of all eyes at Detroit meets unlike in the past.

One factor that is conspicuous, of late, is that with the formation of Telganana State, Telugus from the State, who have been keeping low profile have formed separate Telangnana Telugu Associations and coming out openly to maintain a separate identity of the region though continuing Telugu harmony with inclusive approach. This was evident in the recent Global Telangana meet held at Dallas last month which was attended by thousands of NRIs mainly hailing from Telangana region.
