Hyderabad: The State government on Thursday extended the tenure of Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing Director N V S Reddy by one more year. Reddy, an officer of Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS), has been in service in Andhra Pradesh since December 18, 2008.

He attained the age of superannuation on Thursday. The government immediately issued GO 196 on the same day, extending the term of the officer by one more year. The GO stated, “Despite being one of the largest Metro Rail projects in PPP mode in the world and first of its kind PPP Metro project in the country,

the project has made good progress with over all completion of 63 per cent in the last four years. NVS Reddy as the Managing Director of the project successfully tackled various contentious and sensitive issues and satisfactorily handled the hurdles that were encountered in implementation of the project so far…

There are still several contentious issues which need to be handled with outmost care and expertise.” The Rs 14,132-crore Hyderabad Metro Rail project was scheduled to be completed by July 2017, but delays like changes in alignment, land acquisition and other issues have resulted in the project overshooting the deadline by another year.

Authorities are optimistic that all the three Metro Rail corridors, including the one passing through the Old City, would be completed by December 2018.
