Thousands of commuters use this important arterial road that connects densely populated areas of Banjara Hills. Over a dozen non-fatal road accidents go unreported here on a daily basis. Residents and commuters using this stretch are annoyed at the lethargic approach of civic officials as their appeals for covering these open manholes have gone in vain.
Hyderabad: Dangerous manholes continue to be a common site in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits. A huge manhole has been posing threat to the commuters near Park Hyatt hotel at Banjara Hills Road No. 2. As usual, the GHMC officials do not appear to be bothered about it.

Banjara Hills Road No. 2 constantly bustles with traffic as it connects Nagarjuna Circle and KBR Park Junction. Thousands of commuters, especially school children take this road to reach their destination.
M Srikanth, a pedestrian who was passing by the road says he accidentally slipped in to the uncovered storm water drain during the recent rains as he could not differentiate between the open drain and the steadily flowing rainwater. "People usually talk over phone while taking a walk and it is very difficult to identify the manhole during the rains," he said.
As usual there was no sign board to warn that there is an uncovered manhole. "How will any motorist or commuter know if there is no sign board to warn about the uncovered manhole, says M Manoj," marketing executive in an MNC.
He said the commuters in order to escape the traffic would move to corners of the road, exactly to the location of the uncovered manhole.
When the issue was brought to the notice of the GHMC officials, they said that the corporation has been covering every manhole on a priority basis. The official also promised that the problem would be rectified within 24 hours.
