Warangal: A municipal employee has lost his life due to electrocution prior to the launch of the second phase ‘Telangana Haritha Haram’ here on Friday.

The deceased employee, Velpula Rajaiah (40), was serving as a gardener with Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC). When the incident occurred he was pitching a ceremonial flag post by the side of road at Rampur on the outskirts of Warangal for Haritha Haram launching ceremony.

The flag post, made with iron, accidentally came into contact with the overhead high voltage live power distribution lines and Rajaiah died on the spot. The body was shifted to MGM Hospital mortuary for post mortem and the local police booked a case in connection with the incident.

He is survived by his wife and two children.The GWMC mayor, N Narender, expressed grief over the death of the employee and said the family would be extended all possible help from his side, besides the corporation.

An appeal was made to the State government seeking to support Rajaiah’s family. Efforts would be made to provide all employment related benefits from the government at the earliest. The incident was taken to the notice of the district collector, V Karuna, he added.
