Peddapally outsmarts Sircilla in Swachh drive
While achieving the distinction of open defecation free (ODF) Assembly segment in Karimnagar district, Peddapally outsmarted both Sircilla and Vemulawada, the other two constituencies that already have 100 per cent individual sanitary latrine (ISL), by ensuring cent per cent bathrooms in every household.

This apart, the constituency is close to achieve 100 per cent soak pits.
Thanks to the efforts of the people representatives and the officials, who made it possible in just nine months. It may be noted here that though Sircilla represented by Minister for Panchayat Raj KT Rama Rao, and Vemulawada represented by Chennamaneni Ramesh, have achieved 100 per cent ISL target some time ago, notably the administration focused on bathrooms as well along with the ISLs in Peddapally Assembly segment.
When the authorities launched the drive, the target was to construct 15,604 units (each unit includes an ISL and a bathroom separately) 102 gram panchayats in six mandals - Peddapally, Sultanabad, Odela, Julapally, Kalwa Srirampur and Eligedu – of the constituency. According to officials, Rs 18 crore has been spent on construction of the 15,604 units. In all, now there are 22,477 units, including the already constructed, in the constituency.
“When we launched the drive a majority of households did not have toilets. The people were adamant to listen to the importance of the ISLs. They preferred open defecation,” Dasari Manohar Reddy, Peddapally MLA, told The Hans India, referring to the village-level officials’ and local body members’ ordeals in convincing the villagers.
Now Peddapally stands as an example for other constituencies to replicate the model of achieving toilets and soak pits, he said, thanking the officials and people’s representatives for their concerted effort in bringing accolades to the constituency.
