Nizamabad: The ESI hospital in the town, established by the Central government two decades ago, spending crores of Rupees for the benefit of the labourers has become ineffective in providing medical services to them.

The 40-bed hospital embedded with all the necessary modern medical equipment is not catering to then need of the labourers and is lying in a mess. The functioning is in total disarray.

The reasons for the sorry state of affairs are not far to seek. Several patients who come here for medical help told The Hans India on Sunday that the Hospital Superintendent Dr Krishnamurthy fails to turn up at the hospital everyday and comes irregularly.

Instead, he focuses his attention more on his private nursing home and totally neglecting his duties at the ESI, they lamented. Moreover, the skeletal staff available at the hospital were not able to discharge their responsibilities effectively.

The patients said that the staff were trying to give lame excuses and shifting the blame entirely on the low turnout of patients which was not true. As a result, the labourers were forced to take loans at exorbitant rates of interest to get medical services at the corporate hospitals, they lamented.

The patients said that although there were six patients at the hospital, only two were attending to their duties and even these two doctors were not maintaining punctuality.

They expressed the hope that the Telangana State government would take steps and improve the working conditions in the hospitals.
