The bench directed it to be listed along with another writ petition filed by environmentalist Purushotham Reddy on July 18. The bench appointed senior advocate L Ravichander as amicus curiae.

The acting Chief Justice observed that the letter addressed by Kingshuk Nag Resident, editor of the Times of India had no personal interest. “It echoes the majority view of the people of the city,” the acting Chief Justice said.
