Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police Anurag Sharma said the department is appointing men to monitor the growth and protect the saplings planted under Haritha Haram at all the police stations, in order to facilitate the future generations to enjoy the fruits of greenery and pollution free air.

He added that Telangana police had so far planted 12 lakh saplings across the State as against the target of 10 lakh saplings.

Planting mango saplings at the Octopus Training Command Centre here on Thursday along with other senior police officials, the DGP said that no other chief minister or any other State in the country had promoted the Haritha Haram program for promotion of greenery and protection of environment like Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

“Policemen have owned up the Harita Haram as their own domestic exercise and they are likely to plant few thousand more saplings in the coming next few days” the DGP said and added that the Telangana police have always been at the forefront in all the social causes and community welfare activities being announced by the State Government from time to time.

Earlier the Police participated in the Mission Kakatiya program. The police also played a role in cleaning of hospitals in the Swachch Telangana campaign and also contributed their might for the Mission Bhagaritha program ‘All these show how Telangana police are not only effective in law and order maintenance but vanguards of people friendly programs “, he said.

Inspired by the DGP’s participation several media representatives also planted saplings. When a four - year - old son of a daily labourer at the Octopus campus was enthused about tree planting, the DGP encouraged the boy to plant one mango sapling at the same venue.

Addl. DGP Krishna Prasad asked every citizen to take pride and plant trees and become partners in the ambitious task of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Nagi Reddy, IGP, said in some districts police adopted some villages for implementing the Harita Haram program.

Prominent police officials who participated in the programme were: Satyanarain, Gopi Krishna, Anjani Kumar, Govind Singh, Sandeep Sandilya, Soumya Mishra, Sanjay Kumar Jain, Srinivas Reddy, Akun Sabharwal and M. Ramesh.
